Watch BIG SKEEM's opinion:

Honestly Skrilla...Im feelin the same way...I started classes last year part time...Didnt really like it but music is definitely not a good source of income these days...I decided im droppin "Certified" as my final solo mixtape for a long time and from there im not sure what angle i wanna take...I love music and making it...that will never change but truthfully Im just frustrated with this shit...I have been goin hard non stop for the last 3 years and am still not satisfied with things...I plan on pushin this cd til the wheels fall off and hopefully somethin big will happen... I still will do collabs and things like that but as far as any major projects on my part I'm falling back heavy...I use to mess with a chick in Media...shits not far from where im at...like a hour n 20...stay up

BIG SKEEM
Big Skeem is a breath of fresh air for those liking the real American ‘East Side Sound’. Hailing from Lancaster in Pennsylvania, a small town just outside Philadelphia, Big Skeem is the latest talent to submerge from Geolani’s movement ‘Team AFFicial’. Ever since Big Skeem’s debut single ‘Smash Off’ which features Roc-A-Fella recording artist Peedi Crakk, things have been really moving forward for this talented US rapper. Big Skeem is making a lot of noise in the US at the moment with features on mixtapes from the likes of DJ Envy, Tapemasters Inc., DJ Diggz, DJ Lust, DJ Dub, DJ 4Sho, Meddafore, Dub Floyd and Digital Product, as well as radio play on most of the East Coast’s number one stations including Kiss 99.3FM, Power FM and Sirius and opening shows for JR Writer, Drag-On, Jin and Freeway. Over here in the UK, that single in-fact received ‘Hip-Hop Single Of The Month’ in DMC’s Update Magazine, as well as receiving numerous spins from a string of European DJ’s from a limited MP3 mail-out! Now back with a full-length CD entitled ‘By Any Means Necessary’, the big man is set to do some real damage with a total of seventeen killer tracks. Laz (Pottersfield), Dino West (New No Limit), Rain, Big Cas, A-Pinks, Garcia and of course Geolani & Montega from Team AFF, this CD is an absolute must for fans of Stateside rap. REVIEW IN 1 WEEK TO LIVE MAGAZINE VOL.78 for By any means necessary

Big Skeem review appeared in last week's (issue 78) of One Week to Live

BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY

Hip Hop

What we have here is the usual street game blend. Messiah-complex brags, unsophisticated put-downs, punchlines that are hard without being intelligent, calculation of riches, traversing through clubs/women, etc. So far, so identikit, right down to the sleeve artwork, MySpace advertising and 'Big' prefix, and so not worthy of your hard-earned shekels. However, this is hip-hop. It can rattle the streets and hustle its way into homes, even if it never intends to advance to a high level to make its mark. Pennsylvanian pistol Big Skeem is a hybrid of Fat Joe and Juelz Santana, the latter portion proving ideal for the Dipset-style posturing. With sky-scraping, chest-puffing bluster, Skeem marches as a one-man, gridlock-causing ticker-tape parade. When steaming through, especially over the beats on hire for the freestyles 'Blow' and 'Cannon', he's a convincing blower of his own trumpet. A solid flow and tight hooks are perfectly suited and tuned into the production. You can't imagine him rhyming over any other style other than the hostilities on offer to get by, which includes a scheming drop of new G-funk on 'Just Ridin'. Again the backbone verges on generic, but it's valuable. Synthesized and Southern-fried club shakes (the keyboard work throughout seems reinforced rather than coming off flimsy), compete with murderous stomps and sulks ('Bounce') and chipmunk intervention ('Life on the Line'). The deluge of guests (of which Peedi Crakk is probably the most high-profile), culminates in the gigantic posse cut '25 to Life'. Taking its cue from Late's 'International Rhyme Spittin', in fairness, the masses that pass through from the local underground don't drop the ball. 'By Any Means Necessary' is textbook thuggin', but if you're after a street album to annoy neighbours and pedestrians with, get it as the title suggests.

"BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY" REVIEW IN RAGO MAGAZINE

BIG SKEEM
‘By Any Means Necessary’
(Team AFF)
www.myspace.com/bigskeempa

This debut CD from Big Skeem is proper fire! On a level his vocal tone is like a more gutter version of Fat Joe, and his bars hit hard making him easily one of the best MC’s on the American underground scene. This CD features seventeen tracks including some killer freestyles, but above all some really good produced tracks. ‘Boxed In’ produced by AFFicial Beats is the CD’s first real highlight before we get into his heavy single ‘Smash Off’ featuring Peedi Crakk. Mixed up DJ Herk, this audio journey is put together so well with nice DJ skills running throughout. Herk also gives up some dirty production too! Peep ‘What’s The Sound’ and ‘It’s easy featuring Stack Bundles. Both killer tracks, as is the awesome posse cut ‘25 To Life’ which features Geolani, Synp Life from 354, Papi Storz, Rain, Big Cas, Montega, Streetz & Young Deuces, A-Pinks, Brick Saavy, Logic, Rover, St. Laz from Pottersfield, Trilogy, Tom Gist from Dipset, Phene A.C, Sin Sizzerb, Gawdbless, Dino West from the New No Limit, Al Sharb, Dan Deuce, Miami’s Garcia and hot talent Showtime all on one massive posse cut! ‘Its Murda’ is a big tune too which sees the Boss Geolani drop hefty alongside the South’s new voice Big Cas. Massive tracks, massive release and above all an MC to watch out for! UK fans should be on the look-out for his first European release ‘Extended Family – The Hustler’s Edition’ hosted by UK rapper CONMAN and Team AFF’s BIG SKEEM coming soon on Wolftown Recordings.

Interview with BIG SKEEM by Rago Magazine

BIG SKEEM from Lancaster, Pennsylvania – USA.

Thanks for taking the time out to do this interview for Rago Magazine. Where are you from and what’s the Hip-Hop scene/industry like there?

Definitely, I appreciate y'all getting at me to do this interview. I'm from Lancaster P.a. which is a small city outside Philly and Reading P.a. The scene out her is...well, I'mma be real with u...oversaturated. Everybody's a rapper and everybody sounds the same...They all took Young Gunz & Cassidy's style of rappin and killed it. I try to have my own sound so no matter where I'm at nobody can automatically say "oh he's from here"...I switch it up...feel me.

How long have you been rapping and what or who influenced you to pick up the microphone and start writing?

I been doin this since about 12 years old, but I started takin it serious and goin hard at it around 15. I was influenced by artists like 2Pac, Big L, Bone Thugs, Biggie, Beanie Sigel, Jadakiss, Nas...too many to name...

When did you get your first break and was there anyone person who helped along with your music career?

I wouldn't say I had a big break yet but I was helped mainly by my parents who were my first supporters and my man DJ Herk who sat down and told me the importance of makin hot music and not followin what everybody else does. He also gave me the beats for my main singles "smash off" featuring Peedi Crakk & It's Easy Featuring Stack Bundles which he later showed me how to get my music heard outside the city...mixtapes, radio, internet, labels...etc. O yea and Geolani's been helpin allot lately with the mixtape slots and gettin me some beats...Good Look G!!!

What have you released so far and what has the response been like?

So far I dropped my first solo mixtape "By any means necessary" back in September 05" which has had a great response everywhere I take it...

What would say is the most popular track that you have released to date?

Mmmm....probably "Smash Off" featuring Peedi Crakk because that was the song that broke me into radio and the mixtape scene...It was also picked up as a white label B-Side to Tony Yayo's "So Seductive" and Teairra Mari's "Make her feel good" which were 2 huge records at the time.

What producers do you work with?

I've worked with allot. Off top I can say DJ Herk, Phoenix, Lokken Load Ent, Ghost, Capp N Kidd Wonder, Dirty Bird, Metro Beats, Digital Product, Afficial Beats, Cellz (that joint ain’t out yet), Masar. I know I'm forgettin some but ask me that question again next time.

What studio do you record in?

I record at allot of spots. I did my main singles at Milkboy recording but other tracks are normally done in home studios.

What artists have you collaborated with and what’s the most memorable collaboration that you have recorded?

So far I got joints with Stack Bundles, Peedi Crakk, Ali Vegas, D.O.E., Big Cas, Rain, Geolani, Dashah, Phene, Montega, Dino West, Freeway, Delilah. Hopefully I can double that this year. Most memorable was probably with Peedi cuz dude chilled in the studio for hours and really chopped it up and let everyone hear his new mixtape months before it dropped. He gave me ideas to make the song better too.

What’s your label situation? Who you signed to and do they have distribution?

Right now I'm unsigned. I am a member Of Team Afficial which is dominating the internet heavily at the moment with a strong following to the whole movement.

What are your views on the mixtape game? Is it saturating the marketplace with bootlegs or are they creative masterpieces to help rappers blow?

Mixtapes are the key to any unsigned rapper/artist. It can help get your name and music in places it might never have gotten without that slot from that certain DJ. It is oversaturated tho in the respect that everybody is rapper now and bullshit is gettin on these cd's instead of the real talent due to DJ`s chargin outrageous prices to get on them...but the talent will always outshine the garbage so it's only a matter of time.

With so many rappers in the game how are you planning to make noise and get noticed?

I'm just gonna be me and let the music speak for itself...these days too many people are tryna be something they're not which only makes you look like everybody else. That shows you right there how creative you are, if you cant be you as a person how do you think you're music will be accepted?

Have you featured or hosted any mixtapes?

I'm gettin ready to host DJ Sureshot's next mixtape. I been on allot of mixtapes in the past year from DJ Diggz, Envy, DJ Lust, Ophax, SureShot, Makasi, DJ Meddafore, DJ 4Sho, Digital Product, DJ Block, White owl, DJ 151, Dub Floyd, DJ Legacy, DJ Mello, DJ Dub

Are you working on new material?

Oh Yea always...I try to get new material out as much as possible.

Have you done many live shows or tours? Tell us more about your live show.

I've done a few. Could be more tho. I did a show with Jr Writer last year and opened up for artists like Jin, Drag-on, Jacki-O, Dirtbag and a few others...

What’s been the most memorable gig and why?

Not the biggest gig but most memorable had to be my 12th grade talent show. That was the first time I performed in front of over 100 people and saw how much the crowd was feelin me. That right there was a feelin I can't even explain.

Any tips for someone just coming into the game?

You gotta do something to separate you from the others...whether it be style, production, delivery whatever just be different and do it for you not because you wanna be like everyone else cuz like I said the bullshit always shines through sooner or later.

Any major plans for 2007? Anything big in the pipeline?

Basically I'm just goin hard at these mixtapes and features and anything else that pops up I'm open to.

What radio stations in your area are supporting your music?

Stations that I know of are 99.3 kiss fm which is a top 40 station and power 99 the #1 hip hop station in Philly...Also Sirius radio.

‘Big name’ collaborations seem to be the way for ‘underground artists’ to get more exposure. Do you plan to do this?

Already did that...lol...Yea it helps allot. People that might not check your music at first might give it a second look since you got the big name. But be prepared to spend some $$$ don't look for the easy way out and blend ya shit wit someone else cuz once word gets out that it's a fake it could really hurt the credibility of any real tracks you do in the future. Real talk.

Have you done any music videos to promote your latest release? If so what TV Stations have played it and who made the video?

Not yet.

How are you finding the My Space.Com revolution? Love it or hate it? What are your views?

LOVE IT. It really helps you link up with people and different contacts you might of never knew without it. Example: that’s how I met Geolani. But people can't think that this is makin moves hand to hand in the streets promotin is still the best way to get known.

Do you have a My Space page or a website?

Yup. www.myspace.com/bigskeempa

What other rappers are you feeling at the moment?

Pretty much anybody who is hot but I'd have to say Stack Bundles, Jeezy, Hell Rell, The Monopoly (2 new cats outta Philly),Young Hot (outta Philly), Joey Jihad (outta Philly), Rain, Geolani (the whole Team Afficial), Jay-Z of course, Tru Life, Gillie Da kid, Ransom (A-Team) too many to name...depends on my mood...

Describe your style in 5 words.

Real, Creative, Significant, True, HOT...lol

Do you a direct link for people wanting to buy your music on-line?

You can download my mixtape for free on my myspace by clicking the cover. You can also download my 3 singles cdq & dj free at www.djherk.com/BIGSKEEM

Would you ever sign to a major label?

Yea if the paperwork and money is right.

Do you have a manager or booking agent?

Nope!!! I grind on my own...so anybody looking for bookings or features get at me direct at bigskeem@yahoo.com

Do you know anything about the UK Rap scene? Heard any UK Hip-Hop?

I aint even gon lie I don't know to much besides S.A.S but I'ma brush up on some more this year. Yall let me know who's hot.

Why should people buy your music?

Because it's all me, no one is tellin me what to say or write it's 100% Skeem either love it or hate it but you can never say it's fake.

Any shout-outs or anything you wanna add?

First off shouts to Rago magazine for throwin ya boy in there!!!! Also shouts to DJ Herk, Geolani and the whole Team Afficial and my P.A. squad Da Rotten and Half-The-Hustla appreciate all the support...And I cant forget all the mixtape DJ`s and producers that show love...GOOD LOOK!!!! 07" LET'S GET IT!!!!

Interview with BIG SKEEM by ELADIO

ELADIO: In Europe they don't really know you, tell them something about you.
BIG SKEEM: I gotta be one of the hardest workin unsigned artists out there. I really feel like I should be further than what I am. I've dropped 2 mixtapes prior to BYAMN with a former partner...which name I'm not gonna say but them 2 tapes were my preperation in my younger days to becoming what I am now. I'm one of the fewest asian rappers out there that could easily take over this thing we call hip hop regardless of my nationality. Real recognize real so u gotta respect me. I'm from the small city of Lancaster Pennsylvania...age 22...Korean.....libra...lol.

ELADIO: How was your 1st step into the rap industry?Tell us your story.
BIG SKEEM: I used to rap for fun back when i was like 13-14 in middle school and people used to go crazy. But i never thought much about it until I moved and started my freshamn year of highschool. I became recognized heavily back then for battlin...and never losin...lol...I dont battle anymore but that was my start. I later generated some interested from the label Ruff Ryders in 2003. I was to be one of the 3 new artists signed to the newest branch off Ruff Ryders call "Ruff World" I stayed around them for a year or so thinking sooner or later I'd be on but that never happened. After that me and my partner at the time went are seperate ways and I basically took a year off and tried to figure out how I was going to continue to make music but as a solo artists. I finally decided to get my name out there more i would need to find a major artist to collab with to help me drop my 1st solo single...and that artist was Roc-a-fella artists Peedi Crakk. Once i dropped that record in late 2004 it was a wrap. I had radio, mixtapes, internet, everything all in one shot.
ELADIO: By any means necessary it's a hot mixtape how much work did u put in that album?

BIG SKEEM: That project took maybe a year and a half. I still feel it could of been alot better...more songs, no freestyles but live and learn, and the streets loved it so i can''t complain at all. That tape really helped me get out nationally and respected for what i was trying so hard to do. It took so long to do mainly because of the cost on each guest appearance. I was also paying for everything out of my pocket. Studio cost was damn near $100 a hour not including the mix and master. I really wanted to make sure i was happy with every track from beginning to end.

ELADIO: Certified is next, still a mixtape. When will you drop an album?

BIG SKEEM: Originally I wanted it to be a mixtape but now i prefer to call it my street album. 100% original production...Full length songs, major guest appearances, major production the whole nine. So to call it a mixtape i think kinda hurts the integrity of the project. So far i got 2 joints with Stack Bundles ( R.I.P), Freeway, Bynoe (Riot Squad),Peedi Crakk (gotta use it again...lol...its a classic!!!), Geolani, Billz, Lil Eto, S.One, my artist Young Haze, Phene and a few more surprises. Production wise I got Vinny Idol (D-Block), Majik (he did Jim Jones' track "Weatherman"), Metro Beats, Ghost (He's worked with Dip Set & Chamillionaire), Lokken Load Ent. (Cam'Ron, Stack Bundles, Paul Cain), Dj Herk, Cellz, Fresh P, Dj Nice (Dip Set), Baron Boys and some more i'm in the process of working with.

ELADIO: When will be out Certified?

BIG SKEEM: I'm pushing for April or may...June at the latest depending how long it takes to get everythign wrapped up like the cover and the mixing.

ELADIO: Can we know something about Certified?Who u workin with on the album?
BIG SKEEM: Pretty much answered that in question 5 but it will be executived produced by Geolani...ceo of the crew I'm wit Team Afficial. I was gonna have someone host it but like i said i dont want this to be considered a mixtape so i probably wont go that route.

ELADIO: What you think about those beefs in hip-hop?
BIG SKEEM: If they legit beefs i guess it is what it is but if you doing something like for instance Bow Wow Vs. Lil Romeo that shits corny as hell. Some beef is called for but i think if u really got a problem with someone you should handle direct not over a beat. Now a days too many people start beef just to get they name up and gain recognition. I refuse to do that, I will never make anyone feel famous of my work.

ELADIO: Right now, people in Europe is getting closer to your music.Do you have a message for them?

BIG SKEEM: I want my music to be respected and understood no matter where you live or what language u speak. Europe in my eyes is no different then the U.S. as far as fans and musicians. I appreciate everyone who appreciates me. Thanx again for this interview and anything else you guys do to help me in the future. I know I've been on a few mixtapes out of Europe and hopefully many more to come. Stay tuned..I'M HERE!!!!!!!!

BIG SKEEM A FRESH FACE TO THE GAME BUT NOT TO THE GRIND HAS BEEN MAKING A LOT OF NOISE AND CATCHING ATTENTION FROM SOME OF HIP HOPS NEWEST AND GREATEST TALENTS LATELY. RIDING OFF THE SUCCESS OF HIS HIT SINGLE 'SMASH OFF' FEATURING ROC-A-FELLA RECORDING ARTIST PEEDI CRAKK WHICH WAS FEATURED ON NUMEROUS MIXTAPES (DJ ENVY, DJ E NYCE ,TAPEMASTERS INC. JUST TO NAME A FEW) ALONG WITH RADIO SPINS ON POWER 99 (#1 STATION IN PHILLY), 99.3 FM (TOP 40 RADIO) AND SIRIUS RADIO COURTESY OF DJ HERK, DJ SKEE, AND STATIK SELEKTAH THINGS HAVE DEFINITELY STARTED TO TAKE OFF. FOLLOWING UP WITH THE STREET ANTHEM 'ITS EASY' FEATURING DIPSET/ASYLM ARTIST STACK BUNDLES WHICH FOLLOWED THE SAME PATH AS FAR AS MIXTAPES (DJ DIGGZ,DJ LUST,DJ DUB, DJ4SHO)) AND RADIO PLAY IT PROVED SKEEMS FIRST SINGLE WASNT JUST A FLUKE AND HE WAS MORE THAN JUST A PARTY RAPPER. FROM THERE HE BEGAN DOING SHOWS AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE OPENING FOR ACTS SUCH AS JR.WRITER,DRAG-ON,JACKI-O,FREEWAY,INFA-RED & CROSS,FIEND,DIRTBAG, AND JIN. AFTER BEING EMBRACED BY THOSE HE PERFORMED IN FRONT OF BIG SKEEM FELT HE NEEDED AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE TO RECOGNIZE THE FACE WITH THE VOICE, SO DVDS WERE THE NEXT STEP. JUMPING ON TITLES LIKE 'STREET HEAT' A MIAMI BASED DVD, 'TIL DEATH DO US', AND 'STREET CANNONS' BOTH BIG IN PHILLY WITH FEATURES FROM E.NESS,GILLIE DA KID,SANDMAN (RE-UP GANG),STACK BUNDLES,MOS DEF,ELEPHANT MAN AND MORE THINGS WERE GOING AS PLANNED. BIG SKEEM HAS RECENTLY WRAPPED UP HIS 1ST SOLO MIXTAPE CALLED

'BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY' WITH GUEST APPEARANCES RANGING FROM COURSE PEEDI CRAKK & STACK BUNDLES BUT ALSO ALI VEGAS, D.O.E. (INTERSCOPE), HOTS (VIRGIN RECORDS), DINO WEST (NO LIMIT), GEOLANI (SONY RED), BIG CAS, GARCIA, STREETS N YOUNG DEUCES AND MANY OTHERS. SOME OF THE HOTTEST UPCOMING PRODUCERS HAVE ALSO SHOWN LOVE AND SUBMITTED BEATS. PRODUCERS SUCH AS DJ HERK (KRS ONE,PEEDI CRAKK,STACK BUNDLES),CAPP N KIDD WONDER (YOUNG BUCK,BUN B,SLIM THUG),AFFICIAL BEATS,PHOENIX (A.C.,D.O.E.,D-RICH (G-UNIT),LOKKEN LOAD ENT. (DIPSET,STACK BUNDLES,PAUL CAIN), DIRTY BIRD AND BASSHEDZ. OVER ALL NOT BAD FOR THE LAST YEAR WOULDNT YOU SAY' KEEP YOUR EYES OPEN BECAUSE THE FUTURE IS BIG SKEEM AND THE FUTURE IS NOW.
